‘Yellow-Alert’: Sgr among other areas receive heavy rainfall | KNO

MeT predicts more rains, thundershower across J&K till May 12

Srinagar, May 09 (KNO): Amidst the two-day yellow alert, Jammu and Kashmir parts, especially the southern areas and Srinagar, the summer capital of the region received heavy rainfall on Friday afternoon. Reports of heavy rainfall were received from Shopian, Kulgam, Anantnag in South Kashmir and some parts of northern region and in Srinagar. Notably, the weatherman here has issued a ‘yellow alert’ till tomorrow (May 10), predicting brief spells of light rain, thundershower and gusty winds at scattered to fairly widespread places across Jammu and Kashmir. Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that partly to generally cloudy with spell of light to moderate rain, thundershower and gusty winds are expected at scattered to fairly widespread places. The MeT Director has further predicted the possibility of brief spell of light rain and thundershower at isolated places on May 12, adding that there is a forecast of generally dry weather conditions from May 13 to May 17. Meanwhile, in its advisory, the MeT has advised the people to follow administration and traffic advisory. The people have been also advised to avoid boating, shikara riding in Dal Lake, Wular Lake & other water bodies during inclement weather and gusty winds. According to the Advisory, the MeT has forecasted intense showers at few vulnerable places may lead to landslides and mudslides. The MeT also said that there is a forecast of significant rise is day temperature from 13th onwards mainly in Jammu division—(KNO)
